1 year "Dear Emma"

Hi sweet girl,

This post will be spotty and kind of all over the place since I'm typing it while you play outside on the porch.  I must be vigilant of you, but I couldn't bear to put this post off any longer.  I'm already 2 weeks behind!

Your first birthday has come and gone.  It was a spectacular celebration though.  All your friends and family came to celebrate with you.  (I promise to post party pics in a separate post.)

I still can't believe you are one year old.  One whole year.

*pause: you're currently trying to climb into your push car*

What a crazy, confusing, frustrating, exhilarating, joyful, tearful, wonderful year it has been.  You've excelled in so many milestones.  You've grown in leaps and bounds.  You've gone from 4lbs 12oz to 22lbs.  You went from our gummy toothless wonder to a girl with six teeth.  You walk.  You talk (your own baby language, but you definitely communicate).  You dance and sing.  You smile and laugh so purely.  Your eyes are always full of innocence, wonder, curiosity, determination all at the same time.   You are an independent child with an intensely affectionate nature.  You hug, kiss, and cuddle.  You adore the dogs, being outside, and playing in the water.  You are teaching me and your daddy how to live, laugh, and love all over again.  You have shown us hope and joy in a world tainted by hatred and heartache.  You have proven that we not only can survive the heartbreak, but we can thrive.  You, my love, are the truest definition of a rainbow baby.  This year hasn't been easy.  Growing, changing, and learning is hard and painful at times.  But you have restored so much color and balance to our world.

Here's what you're in to:

Favorite food:  Cheerios.  You know where they are - the pantry.  You've also discovered that you're just tall enough on your tippy toes to reach up and grab them.  You've been pulling the box out 234,567 times a day.  Sometimes you stick your hand in and pull a tons out, other times, you just get all the cereal boxes out for fun.

Favorite toy:  Your water table, your car (always), bouncy balls, and your Violet talking dog. Oh, and red solo cups.  You LOVE stacking, putting things inside them, dipping them in water.  Sometimes you'd rather play with the cups than your toys.

Favorite new trick:  Getting off the couch - belly/feet first.  We started teaching you how to get down off of the couch/bed in a safe way about 2 weeks ago.  You had the motion down in one full day.  Within a week you were requesting "up, up" onto the couch just so you could slide back off.  We clap and say "YAY" every time.  I kind of think that's your favorite part.

Favorite words:  Up!, caaah (cat), daw (dog), caw (car), da (daddy), dududu (your version of SuperWhy!?), kai (Sky, nana and granddad's dog).

Favorite show:  Super Why!?

Favorite past time:  Anything outdoors.

I love you, EmmaBear.  You are growing so fast.  Please slow down.  I'm excited to see what's next.  I'm with you along this journey and I'm growing in my own ways right alongside you.  Happy 1st Year, baby girl!  You are amazing.  You are inspiring.  You are a daily miracle in my life.

Love always,

Momma
