I'm two years shy of 30 and suddenly I'm finding myself questioning what I like, what I want, what I think, what I believe. Not to be left out, how I dress. My dearest hubby so kindly (truly, he tried to be delicate but honesty) informed me that I dress "like a mom" sometimes and that I'm clearly too young for that. I have to chuckled, because yes, I want to believe I'm too young for that. But, I also have to admit and accept that I am a mom and with that title comes a lot of responsibility and a lot of forgiveness for the things that have changed about me or the things I've forgotten to continue to pursue and change - namely, my fashion sense.
I've been using Pinterest for inspiration and have come across a few blogs and bloggers that are amazing at making fashion easy and affordable for even the busiest, fashion-forward-challenged mom like myself.
So join me on my Sewing And Fashion Adventure. I'm starting conservatively, but hope to venture out to bold, more courageous colors, patterns, and styles. I'm trying to recycle and refashion to both save money and go green. I'm bound to fail at some point, but hey, that's part of discovering and finding what works for me.
I'm proud of my first few projects. They are definitely not perfect. Seams are not straight and cuts aren't 100% accurate, but they fit and to the naked eye (that's atleast 5 feet away) you won't see the flaws.
Skirt refashion #1
This skirt was about mid shin and looked like something my God-fearing baptist grandmother would have worn 10 years ago. It has a beautiful sheen and it's a great neutral color. I paid $3.00 for this sucker and it's in great condition. So I chopped the bottom and hemmed it up to the perfect "pencil skirt" length that's appropriate for work both casual and dressy. I paired it with a light gold necklace and brown shoes to keep it low key for my first attempt at "putting pieces together."
Skirt refashion # 2
I wish I had gotten a picture of the skirt before I pinned it. This has a beautiful but somewhat old fashioned (or too conservative) eyelet pattern. As you can see it was flared, and mid shin length. Just wasn't working for me. I pinned it to match the shape and length of my favorite everyday black pencil skirt. A few quick seams, chop off the extra length, hem, and I have this new pencil skirt.
Shirt refashion # 3
This is a women's extra small shirt. I loved it but could never fit into it comfortably. It's been hanging in my closet waiting for a purpose. I used some of the leftover material from my eyelet pencil skirt. A few cuts, seams, hems, and additions and I came up with this adorable dress for my 2 year old daughter. It took longer to make this then it did the 2 skirts above mostly because I'm new to creating my own clothes so I had to figure out the right placement and the right stitches to make it work. So far, this is my favorite refashion! More pictures to come when she actually wears it.
Stay tuned! I have 6 more skirts to refashion...I'm hoping to get a few new shirts out of them too!
